Description

A specimen of mineralised feldspathic sandstone, featuring veins and brecciated fragments of silver-grey chalcocite. The chalcocite is extensively altered to massive azurite and malachite in which a cavity is lined with botryoidal malachite and blade-shaped crystals of translucent blue azurite (to circa 6 mm). Massive white gypsum is also associated (upper left of centre in exhibits 1 and 2).

The specimen was acquired by MGMH in circa 1927, from renowned dealer in Tsumeb minerals Wilhelm Maucher of Munich, which dates the specimen unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
