Description
A matrix consisting mainly of arsentsumebite (?), parts of which are pseudomorphous after slender, prismatic mimetite crystals (to c. 8 mm), is decorated with composite blades of lustrous blue-black azurite (to 10 mm) and peppered with microcrystals of dark green olivenite.
The green arsenate in this specimen has not been analysed; studies of comparable specimens have shown that similar pseudomorphs after mimetite commonly consist of arsentsumebite and / or bayldonite in varying proportions. Arsentsumebite (?) is believed to be the dominant mineral in the matrix and pseudomotrphs in this example.
The specimen is from the collection of Sharon and Eugene Cisneros. There is no formal record of location in the mine but this specimen is typical of material from the upper levels of the first oxidation zone.
