Description

A single flattened prismatic crystal of azurite (18 mm), free-standing in an iron-stained, smithsonite-lined vug in a matrix of partly oxidised massive sulphide/carbonate ore.

The specimen was number 4336 in the collection of Austrian industrialist Hans von Karabacek, part of who’s collection was purchased by Harvard University in 1935. This dates the specimen unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
