Description

A single, composite crystal of azurite, terminated and of broadly prismatic habit, showing stepped growth and length-parallel striations on alternate faces. The bottom third of the crystal (as photographed) is completely replaced by malachite and a fragment of a crust of smithsonite (?) rhombs adheres.

The specimen is from the collection purchased by Charles Palache during his visit to Tsumeb in April 1922, which dates it to the upper part of the first oxidation zone (i.e. 8 Level or above).
