Description
Tabular azurite crystals (to 15 mm) on a matrix of oxidised sulphide ore with a crust of colourless and white calcite, somewhat iron-stained, intergrown with a little poorly crystallised azurite. The azurite crystals have a dull lustre, possibly due to mild etching, but there is no sign of alteration to malachite.
The specimen is from the collection purchased by Charles Palache during his April 1922 visit to Tsumeb, which dates the specimen to the upper part of the first oxidation zone (i.e. 8 Level or above).
