Description

A dense massive sulphide matrix hosts an irregular vug encrusted with iron-stained carbonates and minor arsenates (not analysed). Bridging the vug are striated, blade-shaped crystals of lustrous, translucent azurite (to 65 mm).

The specimen was number 1814 in the collection of Austrian industrialist Hans von Karabacek, part of whose collection was purchased by Harvard University in 1935. This dates the specimen unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
