Description

Lustrous crystals of blue-black azurite on a powdery matrix of copper arsenates with arsentsumebite (?), cerussite and smithsonite.

The specimen register at the NHM describes this specimen as "Tsumebite. Small emerald-green crystals with chessylite [= azurite] and calamine [= smithsonite]". It was purchased from Dr F. Krantz (of Bonn) in 1912 which dates it unequivocally to the upper part of the first oxidation zone.

There is no evidence, however, that the specimen has been analysed and, while the paragenesis is consistent with tsumebite (?), the spearmint-green mineral is more likely to be arsentsumebite (?).
