A composite nodule of azurite, associated with a little malachite-rich matrix material, the other components of which have not been determined.

The specimen is from the collection of Mark Feinglos (#1323; Exhibit 2) who bought if from David New in May 1978. It belonged originally to OMEG director Friedrich Wihelm Kegel (#187) who was general manager at Tsumeb between 1922 and 1932. The Kegel Collection was purchased from Kegel's widow for the Smithsonian in 1950. The Smithsonian label is shown in Exhibit 3, the reverse of which (Exhibit 4) has a penciled note which reads: "Specimen No 187 of a collection purchased from a Mrs Kegel, 23rd June, 1950 with money from the Roebling fund". A label with the Roebling number R8640 is fixed to the back of the specimen.

The story of the purchase of the Kegel Collection is recorded in detail by White (1977).
