Description
A sharp and apparently complete pseudomorph of malachite after azurite comprising a single dominant crystal (25 mm) with several smaller pseudomorphs adjoining, on a matrix that appears to consist largely of yellow-green conichalcite-duftite (?).
The specimen is from the collection of Sharon and Eugene Cisneros. It belonged originally to Tsumeb general manager F. W. Kegel, whose collection was purchased from Kegel's widow for the Smithsonian in 1950 using funds from the Roebling endowment; formerly catalogue number R8651 in the U.S. National Museum (Smithsonian Institution).
The provenance dates the specimen unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
