Description

A large, composite crystal of azurite completely replaced by malachite. A little matrix material adheres to the base of the crystal and appears to consists of sub-mm crystals of translucent yellow smithsonite, subordinate colourless cerussite (to 1.5 mm) and minute feathery sprays of pale yellow, acicular mimetite.

The specimen is from the collection purchased by Charles Palache during his visit to Tsumeb in December 1922, which dates it to the upper part of the first oxidation zone (i.e. 8 Level or above).
