Description

A large pseudomorph of malachite after azurite with a random, loose intergrowth of tabular replacements (to 75 mm). The replacement appears to be complete, with no sign of residual azurite. At the base of the specimen (and on the reverse) are what appear to be sprays of acicular olivenite crystals (not analysed) encrusted with drusy quartz. Quartz druses also cover some of the malachite faces on the reverse.

This specimen is number 1026 in the collection of Wilhelm Klein, a senior mine manager at Tsumeb between 1916 and 1939. His catalogue records that the specimen is from the Open Pit East.
