Description

A densely reticulated “snowflake” network of twinned cerussite crystals, colourless-white but locally with a slightly smoky appearance associated with remnants of attached matrix at the base of the specimen (as photographed). A little pink dolomite also adheres (Exhibit 2).

The specimen was number 4009 in the collection of Austrian industrialist Hans von Karabacek, part of which was purchased by Harvard University in 1935, thereby dating it unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
