Entry Type

Specimen TSNB588

A colourless calcite crystal, highly transparent, but with a curved, radiating pattern of inclusions of an undetermined mineral. The same (?) undetermined mineral is exposed at the original matrix contact of the specimen and is a soft, black, sooty material - probably a manganese oxide (?) but analytical verification is required. The front face of the calcite (as seen in Exhibit 1) is lightly striated.

The specimen was acquired from Scott Werschky in 2014 who was dispersing calcite specimens from the collection of Tsumeb miner Eric Louw, sent to Werschky via South African collector Ronnie McKenzie. The location in the mine is not recorded.
