Description

Silky, bright red mats of fine, acicular cuprite (v. chalcotrichite) needles on a cavernous matrix of off-white smithsonite and colourless rhombohedral calcite. Many of the calcite crystals are lightly included by chalcotrichite "hairs".


The specimen was number 807 in the collection of Wilhelm Klein, production manager at Tsumeb between 1916 and 1939. His handwritten catalogue attributes the specimen to 12 Level in the first oxidation zone.
