Description

A vug in brecciated dolostone (?) hosts a thick crust of green, botryoidal smithsonite. Prismatic crystals of orange mimetite (exceptionally to 15 mm) rest on the smithsonite but are in turn overgrown by almost colourless bow-tie shaped sheaves (to 2 mm) of second generation smithsonite (Exhibit 2).

The specimen was acquired from Wards Natural Science Establishment in 1929 which dates the specimen unequivocally to the first oxidation zone.
