Description

A shard of dense massive sulphide ore. The display face is encrusted with a veneer of blackish-brown goethite, largely covered by free-standing, colourless-grey composite mimetite crystals (circa 1 mm) on which minute crystals of apple-green conichalcite-duftite (?) have formed (Exhibit 2), together with tabular crystals of colourless to very pale tan wulfenite (to 5 mm on edge). Unfortunately, the specimen is quite badly damaged, but the example of wulfenite from a recorded level in the first oxidation zone is significant (Southwood 2019).

The specimen was number 961 in the collection of Wilhelm Klein, production manager at Tsumeb between 1916 and 1939. His handwritten catalogue (unpublished; MGMH collection) lists the specimen as "Wulfenit auf fahlerz" [wulfenite on tennantite] and attributes it to 6 Level.
