Description

A vuggy specimen of massive sulphide ore consisting largely of chalcocite, with well-formed, blocky, striated crystals of chalcocite (to 10 mm) in a shallow vug accompanied by sub-mm discoidal crystals of tan-coloured siderite. The chalcocite crystals show limited skeletal development and some faces appear to be selectively etched (or perhaps hoppered?).

The specimen is one of a suite of five chalcocite specimens supplied by Charlie Key to Mark Feinglos in June 1995. Key’s typed label attributes the specimen to 44 Level in the third oxidation zone and notes that it was collected in 1994.
