Description

A single sharp rhombohedral smithsonite crystal (16 mm in maximum dimension) perched on a crust of smaller, intergrown crystals over a sulphide matrix comprising galena and tennantite-(Zn) (?). The smithsonite is translucent, with an intense rose-pink colouration, probably due to the presence of trace amounts of cobalt substituting for zinc in the crystal lattice.

The specimen is in the collection of Sharon and Eugene Cisneros. It's location in the mine is not recorded but the habit and colour are strongly indicative of the second oxidation zone.
