Description
This specimen consists largely of massive olivenite intergrown with relict and partly oxidised sulphide ore. Shallow vugs on the display face (exhibits 1 and 2) host prismatic crystals (to 3 mm) of greenish-black olivenite and extensive overgrowths of mamillated to botryoidal malachite and rosasite. The presence of bayldonite (?) is noted on earlier labels (exhibits 3 and 4; see below) but has not been verified.
Mark Feinglos purchased the specimen from Van King in September 1992, prior to which it was in the collection of Curt Segeler. An older but anonymous label (in French; Exhibit 3) describes the specimen as olivenite with bayldonite; bayldonite is also noted on the Feinglos datacard (Exhibit 4).
The location in the mine is not recorded.
