Description

A shard of dense sulphide ore with a little intergrown quartz and a localised, sparse veneer of "GS1" - the amorphous green gel-like material of Gebhard (1999). A 35 mm aggregate of platy, pearly-white leiteite crystals rests directly on the sulphide (Exhibit 2) with a few platy microcrystals of hematite (?) at its base. The leiteite is stained green locally, apparently by the presence of "GS1"; the cause of the more extensive yellowish-brown colouration (Exhibit 3) has not been determined.

The specimen was purchased from Tom Loomis in 2014; it is accompanied by a "Sammlung Gebhard" label (Exhibit 4) indicating that the specimen is from the "Zinc Pocket, 3rd oxidation zone".
