Description
Vuggy, dark grey, partly oxidised sulphide ore hosts, on one side, a mass of leiteite in which a single almost colorless reinerite crystal (1.5 mm) is embedded; incomplete crystals of bright orange legrandite rest on the leiteite (Exhibit 1). On the reverse of the specimen (Exhibit 2) are scalenohedral crystals of essentially colourless smithsonite (to 12 mm), both as simple individual crystals and as composite parallel growth groups.
This specimen was number 3377 in the Feinglos Collection (exhibits 3 and 4), acquired from Bill Pinch in November 1991. Pinch bought the specimen from Charlie Key (who acquired it in Tsumeb), and Pinch's label (Exhibit 5) records that it was collected in August 1991.
This typical "Zinc Pocket" paragenesis is from 44 Level in the third oxidation zone.
