Description

Well-formed crystals (to 11 mm) of light emerald-green adamite-zincolivenite over an earlier-formed druse of the same mineral on a quartz-rich matrix stained with maroon iron oxides. The specimen has not been analysed. The adamite crystals are colour zoned, however (Exhibit 2), with colourless to yellow cores suggesting a composition close to end-member adamite, and green outer regions indicative of a higher copper content probably corresponding to zincolivenite (see Southwood et al. 2022).

The specimen was formerly in the collection of Ted Immelman (South Africa) whose label (Exhibit 3) attributes it to the second oxidation zone and indicates that he acquired it in 1989 from a collector by the name of Abrantes.
