Description

A cavernous specimen comprising botryoidal crusts of green and yellow arsenates – possibly arsentsumebite (?) and gartrellite (?) – on a ferruginous matrix. The upper part of the specimen (as seen in Exhibit 1) is rich in pearly-white spherules and crusts of sub-mm otavite crystals (EDS verified; Frank Keutsch, Harvard University, 2025). Azurite, cerussite and malachite are sparse accessories.

The specimen was acquired from Wayne and Dona Leicht and was formerly in the collection of Richard Gaines. An older label from the "Wilke" collection carries a date of March 1922 which, while there is no record of location in the mine, dates the specimen to the upper part of the first oxidation zone (i.e. 8 Level or above).
