Description
A mat of acicular white fleischerite fibres overgrowing tabular crystals of colourless cerussite.
This is a portion trimmed from the fleischerite type specimen (MGMH111461) and traded to the late Bill Pinch. It was originally in the collection of Wilhelm Klein, production manager at Tsumeb between 1916 and 1939. The Klein Collection was purchased by Harvard University in 1954 and the new minerals fleischerite and itoite were described from this material by Frondel and Strunz (1960). This Pinch Collection specimen has subsequently been re-accessioned to the MGMH collection with catalogue number 2020.7.672.
The specimen is from the first oxidation zone and was believed by Frondel and Strunz (1960) to have been recovered from between levals 6 and 8, although the evidence for this may be circumstantial (Southwood 2022c).
