Description

A massive, pale green and yellow Cu/Pb arsenate ore of undetermined composition. Cavities contain well-formed, translucent, prismatic crystals of emerald-green zincolivenite (to 7 mm), azurite crystals (to 11 mm) some of which are partly replaced by malachite, and later non-pseudomorphous malachite as sub-mm spherules on the azurite and replacing malachite (Exhibit 2). Some of the zincolivenite crystals have fibrous off-white terminations and overgrowths which are also of zincolivenite composition (EDS verified; Frank Keutsch, Harvard University, 2025; Exhibit 3).

This was specimen number 990 in the collection of Wilhelm Klein, production manager at Tsumeb between 1916 and 1939. His handwritten catalogue (unpublished; MGMH collection) describes the specimen as "Tsumebit ? auf Azurit" [tsumebite wih azurite] and attributes it to the Open Pit East.
