General Notes

Colusite is listed on Mindat with "Believed valid" status (https://www.mindat.org/locentry-13312.html; accessed August 2020), citing Krivovichev et al. (2005) as a source. However, Krivovichev et al. (2005) deal with the crystal structure of copper vanadates (not sulphides) and with reference to localities in El Salvador and Russia (not Tsumeb).

Furthermore, colusite is not included in any of the modern locality-specific mineral lists compiled by Pinch and Wilson (1977), Keller (1984), Lombaard et al. (1986), Gebhard (1991,1999) or Von Bezing et al. (2007, 2014, 2016).

Hughes (1987) noted that colusite was one of several sulphide minerals tentatively identified by Geier in unpublished Tsumeb Corporation Limited reports but later revised as more information became available. While conceding that the issue is not entirely clear, Hughes suggested that sulvanite may have originally been mis-identified as colusite.

Questionable status is retained for colusite pending reliable confirmation.
