Description

Brecciated (?) shards of iron-stained quartz encrusted with sprays of acicular green Ca-rich duftite (EDS confirmed) and bright yellow microcrystalline zincgartrellite (?).

EDS examination (Frank Keutsch, Harvard University, 2025) has confirmed that the acicular green crystals are Ca-rich duftite. EDS indicates that the yellow mineral is an arsenate of Pb, Zn, Cu and Fe, in which Pb and Zn are dominant; it appears to be a member of the tsumcorite group, intermediate in composition between zincgartrellite (or tsumcorite) and gartrellite. Further analysis is needed for confirmation.

The specimen was acquired from Michael Haritos (STD Minerals) in 1999, labelled as "beaverite", but with no record of location in the mine.
