Description

A crystal of transparent, colourless to very pale yellow-green reinerite (8 mm) associated with slender, conical sprays of very pale pink smithsonite (to 4 mm) on a matrix of oxidised sulphide material rich in minute grey-black crystals of an undetermined mineral (exhibits 1 and 2). One face of the matrix is very richly encrusted with smithsonite (Exhibit 3). Tiny, feathery sprays of turbid, white to pale green crystals (< 0.5 mm; undetermined) are sparsely distributed.

Mark Feinglos acquired the specimen from Bill Pinch in November 1994. Pinch’s label records that it is from 44 Level in the third oxidation zone. Feinglos’s data card indicates that the reinerite has been XRD confirmed but without further detail.

It is possible that this is a Zinc Pocket specimen, but neither the Pinch nor the Feinglos records confirm this.
