Specimen TSNB618

A dense intergrowth of lead and copper secondary minerals with prominent bright blue aggregates of linarite crystals (to 4 mm) associated mainly with colourless-white cerussite and green malachite (exhibits 1 and 2). A little brochantite and caledonite may also be present (visual identification) but have not been verified. A cavity on the reverse of the specimen has particularly well-developed linarite crystals (Exhibit 3).

The specimen was purchased from Ian Bruce in 2010 and was formerly in the collection of the Bergakademie Freiberg (Exhibit 4). The location in the mine is not recorded but the paragenesis is indicative of the upper portion of the first oxidation zone.

brochantite (?); caledonite (?); cerussite; malachite
