Description
An elongated cavity in vuggy massive sulphide lined with gemmy, terminated crystals of siderite (to circa 7 mm). The siderite ranges in colour from yellow through sherry-brown and is highly transparent; the crystals are scalenohedral in habit but with pinacoid terminations (Exhibit 2). The composition of the sulphide matrix has not been determined.
The specimen was purchased from Armin Schöler in 2013 who acquired it from Ernst Schnaitmann.. It was formerly in the collection of Schnaitmann's father-in-law Herbert Nägele (Windhoek), who bought it from Sid Pieters in May 1998 (Ernst Schnaitmann, pers. comm. 2026). The location in the mine is not recorded.
