Description

Pseudo-hexagonal, tabular crystals (to 3 mm diameter) of pale yellow to tan-coloured vanackerite, with pale spearmint-green thometzekite, on massive sulphide.

The specimen was collected by Tsumeb Corporation Limited mineralogist John Innes in 1980, from the North East Stope on 35 Level, deep in the second oxidation zone. Innes' label (Exhibit 2) identifies the pseudo-hexagonal crystals as "Mimetite ?" and the associated pale green mineral as "Mineral TQ", a working name for what would later be described as thometzekite (Schmetzer et al. 1985).

The specimen was subsequently in the collections of Blair Gartrell and Bill Pinch (Exhibit 3).

Vanackerite (IMA2011-114) was described as a new mineral by Schlüter et al. (2016).
