Entry Type

Specimen TSNB530

A fragment of vuggy massive sulphide ore (Exhibit 1). One major vug (Exhibit 2) hosts several pseudo-octahedral crystals of brown stottite (to 3 mm), tiny colourless siderite crystals, well-formed crystals of galena and at least one other sulphide or sulphosalt that has not been determined.

The specimen was purchased from Ian Bruce. It is a fragment trimmed from a larger specimen rich in stottite crystals for the purpose of confirming the stottite. Confirmation was by EDS (Exhibit 3) and then electron diffraction at the University of Wollongong, Australia (November 2015).

The location in the mine is not recorded but the paragenesis is definitive for the second oxidation zone.

galena; siderite
