Cairncross, B. 9507
Collected by
John Innes; February 1, 1980

Specimen TSNB468
Description
A matrix of partly oxidised sulphide ore is richly encrusted with tabular crystals (to 4 mm) of translucent, sub-vitreous, off-white adamite, intergrown to form a domed coralloid mass (Exhibit 1) and lining vugs on the reverse of the specimen (Exhibit 2). A partial crust of chalky, cream-coloured feinglosite has formed on some of the adamite crystals, concentrated close to the boundary between the adamite and the sulphide matrix (Exhibits 3). Sparse crystals of colourless mimetite (to 2 mm) are also present on the adamite.
A considerable quantity of this material was collected from the North-East Stope on 35 Level, by TCL mineralogist John Innes, on 1 February 1980. Innes gifted several pieces to Terry Seward in July 1982 when Seward visited the Tsumeb mine; feinglosite (IMA1995-013) was not known at that time. Seward’s label (Exhibit 4) clearly post-dates the description of feinglosite (Clark et al. 1985) but all named species have been analytically verified.
The specimen was obtained in an exchange with Terry Seward.
