General Notes

Zincite was first identified at Tsumeb by Schnorrer-Köhler (1982). Lombaard et al. (1986) listed zincite as an extremely rare mineral at Tsumeb, but with questionable validity.

Zincite was included as "extremely rare" in Gebhard’s (1999) list of Tsumeb minerals but without further elaboration.

Roberts et al. (1999) noted the presence of zincite as an opaque, tan-coloured coating on pale pink smithsonite crystals as part of the type assemblage for sidpietersite. This material is believed to have originated from between 40 and 44 levels in the third oxidation zone.

Associated Minerals

galena; greenockite; quartz; sidpietersite; smithsonite
