pyrrhotite
Composition
Fe1-xS
Crystal System
Monoclinic
Status at Tsumeb
Questionable
Type Locality
No
Entry Type
Species TSNB294
General Notes
Gebhard and Schlüter (1995) reported that in 1994, a single specimen of calcite was recovered from 46 Level in the third oxidation zone on which was perched a solitary crystal of bronze-coloured pyrrhotite (20 x 20 mm). Neither Gebhard and Schlüter (1995) nor Gebhard (1999) provide details of how the mineral was identified. Pyrrhotite does not appear to have been reported in any of the previously published ore microscopy studies.
Von Bezing et al. (2014) consider the occurrence of pyrrhotite at Tsumeb questionable.
