General Notes

A specimen comprising colourless-white hexagonal crystals of phosphohedyphane on a malachite pseudomorph after azurite, was offered for auction by Joy Désor in November 2019 (https://e-rocks.com/item/jyj750146/phosphohedyphane-malachite-psm-azurite?sid=df06813e45 aa44dcdf22c6a1c6027303#; accessed February 2024). Although the EDS identification is consistent with phosphohedyphane, no evidence for the Tsumeb provenance was offered.

Geochemically, the occurrence of phosphohedyphane at Tsumeb is entirely plausible, but there is no record of phosphohedyphane in the peer-reviewed literature, and the occurrence at Tsumeb is regarded as questionable pending further evidence.
