General Notes
Gebhard (1991, 1999) reported that a single specimen of marcasite is known from the first oxidation zone. However, the absence of marcasite from lists published by Strunz et al. (1958a), Geier (1973/74) and Lombaard et al. (1986) suggest that marcasite was not encountered in any of the numerous ore microscopy studies undertaken by the Tsumeb Corporation Limited commencing in the early 1950s.
A specimen in the Feinglos Collection at Harvard University (MGMH 2022.4.8091) comprises well crystallised brassy marcasite and is allegedly part of the only known specimen of Tsumeb marcasite from the University of Hamburg (see Gebhard 1999). It is accompanied by an old label indicating that it is from the collection of "M. Grundey" and by a second, more modern label from Georg Gebhard stating that it was collected before 1914. Unfortunately, there is no practical means of verifying the locality attribution for this specimen.
Questionable status is retained for marcasite pending further information.
