General Notes
The occurrence of jarosite at Tsumeb was first reported by Weber (1977) and by Pinch and Wilson (1977), who noted that jarosite has been observed as pale-brown pseudomorphs after tennantite and azurite, to 20 mm in size.
Lombaard et al. (1986) listed jarosite as a very rare mineral, with no further comment.
Keller (1984) cited Weber (1977) in noting the occurrence of yellow-brown pseudomorphs of jarosite after azurite, while Gebhard (1999) considered jarosite as rare, and noted that it occurs as pseudomorphs after tennantite.
While plumbojarosite has been confirmed as a valid species at Tsumeb, there is no record of jarosite in the peer-reviewed literature and no indication that jarosite has been verified by analysis. That said, the occurrence of jarosite at Tsumeb is entirely plausible from a geochemical perspective, including its possible occurrence as a post-mining mineral.
Questionable status is retained for jarosite pending confirmation.
