General Notes
Idaite was provisionally identified at Tsumeb by Geier (1973/74). According to Bartelke (1976) it is one of the rarest minerals, identified under the ore microscope from a single specimen recovered from 20 Level.
Lombaard et al. (1986) listed the occurrence of idaite at Tsumeb as questionable, a status with which Gebhard (1999) concurred.
Hughes (1987) noted that idaite, in association with chalcopyrite, was recorded by Geier in unpublished TCL reports as a probable oxidation product of bornite in ores from 20 Level.
Questionable status is retained for idaite pending reliable confirmation.
